Visiting Beaches - The coast of Cardigan Bay is dotted with small rocky coves with sandy beaches. In the estuaries of the larger rivers there are some considerable expanses of sand in places like Poppit Sands (Cardigan) Borth and Aberdovey.

Places to Visit - There are a number of castles to visit in West Wales as well as many seaside and coastal towns. There are many other attractions such as the Centre for Alternative Technology at Corris, The Rheidol Valley railway and many museums including Aberystwyth and Carmarthen. More information Here.

Walking


There are a considerable number  of scenic walks - footpaths and trails in the area - a choice of wooded valleys coastal paths, beaches, and historic trails. The photo shows Seal Bay along the Ceredigion coastal path between New Quay and Llangrannog. From New Quay the coastal path starts at the end of Lewis Terrace and continues past Bird rock to Cwmtydu and Llangrannog.

 


Sailing and Watersports


The estuaries, harbours and marinas of the West coast provide safe moorings for thousands of boats. The Cardigan Bay  Watersports centre in New Quay provides tuition in dinghy sailing, kayaking and power boat handling.
 


Fishing


There is a wide variety of fishing in West Wales. There is boat and beach fishing, Trout, Salmon and Sewin fishing on the rivers, and a number of commercial fisheries with trout, carp and mixed coarse fishing.  The 'Three fishes' and the 'Dunbar Castle' take fishing groups out from New Quay pier.

Cycling and Mountain Biking


There are many cycling trails in Ceredigion. Close to Aberystwyth is the Nant-yr-Arian Mountain Biking Centre - where Red Kites can also be seen feeding daily. The Council has produced three packs of cycling trail information that are available locally. 


 


Horse Riding



There are stables providing horse riding facilities throughout the area.
 

 


Shopping, Markets and Car Boot Sales
 


The many small market towns of West Wales provide a wide variety of shopping with a range of specialty shops. Most towns have regular markets and there are numerous car boot sales. The photo shows the large Sunday market at Beulah near Tanygroes.

 


Festivals and Special Events
 


Throughout the summer there are a number of festivals and shows in the region. These include the Aberaeron Welsh Cob and Seafood festivals, the Cardigan River Festival, the Croeslan antique vehicle and steam show, and the Aberystwyth and Ceredigion County Show.
